My Work
I am a full time writer. I approach novels as the story of a character or set of characters in a situation that interests or amuses me. I usually start with the question, what if? Then I think about the answers to that question and my characters in the situation and that gets me excited and motivated to begin the long process of writing a novel. I get new ideas all the time and write a brief description and save it. Before deciding on a new book, I pitch it to my creative partner, Kevin, and take his feedback. He reads my work chapter by chapter and his feedback is instrumental in shaping the story and preparing for later drafts. I usually don't send manuscripts to beta readers until the third draft.
My Community
I live in Southern Idaho with my dog Archie. This location was and is a conscious choice. I love to hike and photograph the interesting places that I see. Writing is a socially isolated occupation and requires exercise and social interaction to maintain sanity. I meet the most interesting people when I hike in out of the way places. They don't necessarily find their way into my books, but things they say often do. I serve on a community input commission to give back to this wonderful place that has given me so much. I really love it here and haven't considered many other places to call home. Though Prague Czech Republic does call to me from time to time...if only I could learn Czech...
